Testimony:

In 1998 while on tour in Denver Colorado after performing in concert with the Latin All Stars, Martin was invited to an after party hosted by the promoter.  Martin stated,  “sex drugs & rock-n-roll exists within the secular music industry” Once there, as he had done many other times, Martin consumed various amounts of alcohol, powdered and crack cocaine.

The next  morning Martin found himself  laid out on the promoters living room couch. He slowly sat up attempting to gain his composure, leaned forward and turned on a small TV set  that was sitting directly in front of him. Martin sat back and watched as this unfamiliar woman preach about the Grace of God. This woman said things that were intensely piercing Martins heart.  She asked, Are you currently up to no good?  Do you have a wife at home that loves you? Martin thought yes. She asked, Do you have kids at home that you love?  Martin thought yes. Then she asked one final thing that really got his attention. She said, Do you want to raise your kids?  or, Do you just want to know that you have kids?  Martin sobered up quickly.  The woman went on to say that this was a divine appointment and that God was placing him at a cross-road to make a decision to either continue down the path of destruction or to choose an abundant life that would positively change him forever. She said that God had a magnificent and mighty plan for his future and that all he needed to do was repent of his sins, receive Jesus Christ into his life and to go to love on his wife and family.

Since leaving secular music 10 years ago, Martin acknowledged the calling on his life and has dedicated his talents to carry out the will of God and with the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, Martin has taken the legendary sound of Latin Rock and created the all new Multi-Ethnic, Sprit Filled Sound of L-Rey.  (pronounced El Rey).

In retrospect, this was a pivotal moment for Martin who as a young boy raised up in the rough, drug infested Army Street Housing Projects of San Francisco’s Mission District, living in poverty. Now as a grown man, Martin clearly understands the ultimate plan that God had ordained for his life.  Martin has gone on to forfill his calling by introducing to the world the mighty Latin-Soul sounds of L-Rey
